The Annual White Party '09 took place in Atlanta recently and proved to be a night to remember. Hosted by ATL based 5Friends4Life in association with An Affair With Flair Travel, the White Party brought out the beautiful people in droves! The event is affordable ($20 or $50 for VIP) yet classy and even raised funds for a worthy cause.
Each year 5Friends4Life uses this event to highlight a charitable organization. This year, a donation will be made to the Southwest Atlanta Boys and Girls Club of America.
I arrived in time to catch the intimate VIP reception, complete with live music, food, beverages and atmosphere. After a few words from Host Warren A Huntley, the general event kicked off with a DJ who played a great mix of sounds from classics to today. It was refreshing to only hear two Beyonce songs the whole night as opposed to her entire discography. I also appreciated the diverse crowd. I'd like to send special thanks to event organizers Warren Huntley & Dante Mac for their hospitality and assistance with 3LWTV.
November 1, 2009, the same two organizations host the annual Black Party in Atlanta. Save the date!!!!!

2009 has truly been a year of transition, growth, pain, reflection and purpose. Far too many of us are leaving this earth for what seems to be far too early in our lives. My good friends, Anthony Martin (27) and Aris Staples (32), Farrah Fawcett (62), Michael Jackson (50) and now E. Lynn Harris (54). At some point in my life I got to meet and/or have my life affected by these individuals.
E. Lynn Harris' contributions to the literary world are unprecedented in their greatness. He was one of the first authors to document the experience of African-American SGL (same gender loving) men in print. He broke down barriers for both African American and LGBT authors with his bestselling success.
I was working on the set of "A Different World" when my good friend and co-worker James Anderson told me that I HAD to read "Invisible Life." From that point forward it was incredible to watch his career and literary influence skyrocket! He educated, inspired and achieved the impossible. Though our paths neared on several occasions, it was not until Memorial Day Weekend of this year that we actually met. We had heard of one another and had even corresponded electronically. When we did meet, I was immediately taken by his warmth and ability to make you feel like an individual while amidst a sea of admirers. He was gracious, engaged and in what appeared to be a peaceful space.
E. Lynn granted me an opportunity for what would be one of his last public interviews.
Let us understand that everything is in Divine Order...though that does not make it hurt any less. E. Lynn left us a legacy that continues to inspire and heal. Let us always celebrate his life and his legacy.
E. LYNN HARRIS...WE LOVE YOU...WE BLESS YOU....WE APPRECIATE YOU...AND WE THANK GOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of my favorite and most respected bloggers, XEM VANADAMS has completed a completed an in-depth documentary exploring the racial divide within the gay community. Poignant, candid, the testimony explores the real life issue as seen by many who live it. The four part series is NOT to be missed!

Washington D.C.'s annual White Attire Affair, presented by Al-Sura, returned this past weekend and did not disappoint. Though I sorely missed the gala's absence in 2008, it was evident by Saturday night's upscale soiree that the retooling strategy organizers implemented was exactly the right move. Though the attendance numbers were smaller than in some previous years, King & I Productions and Al-sura did not hold back on delivering a true red carpet experience!
Set in the brand new Onyx lofts in DC's "new" Navy Yard district (remember the good ole pre-stadium days of Edge and Wet?), the affair launched with an intimate VIP reception in the courtyard. Succulent snacks, delicious desserts, intimate live performances, a hot fashion show and of course...an open bar...gave the kids what they came for...LIFE!
This social networking fundraiser promotes HIV care/prevention awareness at a grass root level in Washington, where infection rates are among the highest in the nation. Al-Sura founder, Rahim Briggs, and his team put together a phenomenal event. Production responsibilities where directed by Alvin B. King of King & I Productions.
Take a look at some video from the 2009 White Attire Affair, "The Experience."

No matter how 'evolved' one thinks they've become, lingering prejudices still remain. I am no exception, though I am willing to call myself on it and move forward to more honest living. When I found out I was headed to Montana, all kinds of stereotyped imaged danced in my head. Though not fearful, I did proceed with caution. My preconceived perceptions could not have been further from the reality of my experience.
The natural beauty of the mountains and rivers of Montana truly create a serenity missing in many other places. The people are so courteous and friendly. There appears to be no stress in the air.
AND THE FOOD! I had excellent meals every time. I had the opportunity to visit Butte, Montana as well as Missoula. In Butte, they held the annual Folk Music Festival which featured all genres of music, great food, and HEAT! The video below shows a few of the images from this trip.

Its no secret that summer brings out the cute boys in New York City! On a recent afternoon, I met up with three talented cuties who star in the hot new web series, DramaQueenz. Strolling through NYC's famed theatre district, Troy, Dane and Kristen greeted me with warm personalities and charm to boot. I could see immediately why people have responded favorably to their show.
We sit down for an in depth conversation on a wide range of topics. Saggin', relationships, the show, and the hilarious "either/or" are among many of the highlights of this two part interview.
Drama Queenz is a ten-minute comedy webseries about three
friends and roommates-Jeremiah, Davis, & Preston-dealing with
life, love, and auditioning in New York City.
Webisodes explore the lives of these three actors as they attempt to achieve their dreams in a kooky and unpredictable world.
Drama Queenz is produced by Novo Novus Productions, the ground-breaking, multi-media production company devoted to
developing quality new works that challenge convention, thinking outside the box to discover what's new, what's next, and what's now.

The annual White Attire Affair, the African American LGBTQIQ community's premier gala, is all set for July 18. I have faithfully attended this for the past few years. When I did not hear about the event in 2008, I contacted founder Rahim Briggs and asked what was going on. He assured me the White Attire Affair would return in 2009 which gave me great relief and joy. The WAA is the first (and still the best) gala event out there geared towards the African American LGBT community...period.
I recently spoke with Al-sura founder and event Chair, Rahim Briggs about the 2009 White Attire Affair.
3LWTV: What are your personal expectations from this year's White Attire Affair (WAA)?
Briggs: We really expect to connect with the community by bringing the AIDS epidemic home.
3LWTV: What can WE expect?
Briggs: Expect to be wowed! Alvin B. King returns as producer of the event! In 2002 he produced it and helped launch it into a nationally recognized event. Other cities have tried to duplicate the WAA but have failed. There's nothing like the WAA in D.C.!
3LWTV: We missed the WAA in 2008. Why did you take the year off?
Briggs: WAA needed to be re-tooled. It lost its focus. I felt I had to clean house. Folks in the community felt that way too.
3LWTV: With all the frustration and work involved, why even bother trying to put on a gala of this magnitude?
Briggs: It may seem pointless to an average person but i am extraordinary. Our community needs this! God had given me the vision and all I can do is be obedient and build it.
3LWTV: Explain Social Marketing and how proceeds from the event are used.
Briggs: Social marketing is a tool used to speak directly to a specific demographic about a very specific cause. In keeping with our commitment to community, this years proceeds will benefit Transgender Health Empowerment (THE) which is
so severely disenfranchised within our community. This is the first ever gala to benefit the transgender population...a bold move for Al-Sura. I want to be clear that we support everyone in our community! If we dont reach out to everyone then we are not living up to our core values. Our responsibility is to the community. Our mission is to reach out to everyone.
3LWTV: Closing thoughts?
Briggs: We are bringing D.C. back!!!!!!!!
Entertainment will feature Miss Sylver Logan Sharpe formerly of the group Chic and Nhojj who's music is on the soundtrack of the independent film, "Finding Me." I had the chance to see him perform at last week's Pride Slam in Brooklyn. Truly amazing! Best Selling author M.W. Moore will also be signing his latest novel.
Tickets are going quickly! Click HERE to get yours today! I will see you there!
